The devoted mission of EMU Physics Department is to play an active role in increasing the number of curious minds qualified enough to seek scientific answers for the reasons behind the way the universe functions. This mission is aimed to be achieved via providing a supportive and interactive atmosphere in which different minds can debate and exchange their independent ideas. The Department of Physics, which has been continuing its education life with graduate programs (master's and doctorate) and service courses since 1998, has reactivated its undergraduate program in the 2020-2021 academic year, with the approval of YÖK and YÖDAK.
With the aid of the recurrence of the Bachelor of Science Degree in Physics, EMU is now welcoming undergraduate physics students to be guided towards approaching problems from alternative directions; directions which require ground-knowledge, imagination and creativity. Correspondingly, EMU Physics graduates are encouraged to pursue their further study and take the concepts they learn to the next stage. So far, there exist 93 graduates (MS and PhD) of EMU Physics Department each of whom have received high quality education, and in turn, have been able to pursue their career at an international level. They are well-equipped with the necessary tools to keep on asking fundamental questions for better understanding the nature, given a grounding in problem solving techniques, self-discipline, creativity, self-confidence and other critical skills required in our interconnected world.
All academic staff, not only the experienced members but also the newcomers, possess an active participation in recent scientific developments by getting their studies published in international scientific journals with high impact factors. The passion behind revealing the answers behind unresolved scientific phenomena is reflected into the theoretical and experimental research conducted by academic staff which in turn leads to a passionate environment to study and work in.
As long as human mind exists, there will be adequate room for asking intellectual questions out of curiosity. Combining the excellence in research, undergraduate education and postgraduate training offered, EMU Physics Department is the right place to be for inspecting ways of improving our perception of life and the laws of the universe that we live in.”
Our department boasts well-equipped research facilities, all focusing on the postgraduate and doctoral degree programs.
The department provides an up-to-date PC for each postgraduate or doctoral degree student and is equipped with two general physics laboratories aiming to educate freshman year engineering students on the basics of physics and laboratory techniques.

We are inspired by our philosophy that the mission of education and its institutions are not bound only to train people for vocation, but also to displace and correct primitive notions with advanced ones. This will, in turn, enhance the creativity and productivity of our graduates when they are engaged in real life situations. As a university-wide standard, our PhD students are required to publish at least one paper in an internationally refereed journal listed in the Science Citation Index to be qualified for a PhD diploma. Yet, they are also required to deliver lectures in some theoretical courses in general Physics to train themselves for their prospective careers.
In addition to our teaching and service responsibilities, we expect our entire faculty to pursue world class research activities. Research experiences are considered an essential component of a modern undergraduate as well as a graduate Physics/Chemistry education and this aspect will be enhanced to match with our mission and envisioned future.
For a variety of reasons, including the limited size of both departments, as well as the need of attracting postgraduate students, the Physics and Chemistry Departments have chosen to concentrate their efforts in a number of research areas. Nevertheless, the increase in research emphasis and activity must not be pursued at the expense of quality classroom instruction.
The departments of Physics and Chemistry have achieved and will continue to achieve substantial growth in its nationally and internationally recognized research programs and in the quality of its undergraduate, if and when it commences, and graduate education programs.
Our MSc and PhD graduates receive high quality education enabling them to compete with the others at an international level. They are well-equipped with problem solving techniques, self-discipline, creativity, self-confidence and other critical skills in our interconnected world.

Our MSc and PhD graduates may also serve as faculty members at universities, vocational schools and colleges and as research and development fellows in industrial laboratories and the like.
