Eastern Mediterranean University, Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Department of Psychology hosted the 2nd Social Psychology Congress. First of the event was held last year with the participation of 5 hundred people and now the 2nd of the congresses hosted by EMU was held at Rauf Raif Denktaş Culture and Congress Center.
The Congress started with the opening speeches made on Monday November 27, 2017. Head of EMU Department of Psychology Assoc. Prof. Dr. Şenel Hüsnü Raman stated their gladness for hosting the second of the congresses, first of which was held at Başkent University, and thanked the participants. After giving some recommendations on why students might prefer the field of social psychology, Raman told about how she had chosen this profession.
In his speech, Prof. Dr. Mehmet Ali Özarslan, Dean of EMU Faculty of Arts and Sciences, gave some information about the department and stated that the department had almost one thousand students and that it was the only department of psychology in TRNC with an Accreditation from Turkish Psychological Association. He also wished success to the Congress.
In his opening speech, EMU President Prof. Dr. Necdet Osam stated that Psychology Department was a valuable, picky, conformist and well-managed department giving sensitive training, and reminding EMU's philosophy which makes no concessions on quality, he emphasized that accreditations were the best examples for that. Carrying on his speech "We are a university included in world university rankings", Osam underlined that the university had taken remarkable steps towards integrating with the world in the context of education.
Following the opening, a slide show was presented to commemorate deceased Çiğdem Kağıtçıbaşı, who had great contributions in Social Psychology and then the sessions of the panel started. Over 4 hundred students, researchers and social psychologists attended the 3-day 2nd Social Psychology Congress and 6 invited speakers made presentations in 11 panels and various poster releases were exhibited.
