Events Held at EMU as Part of Chemistry Day and Chemists’ Week

Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU), Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Department of Chemistry organized an event titled “EMU Chemistry Day” within the scope of 7-14 April Chemistry Day and Chemists’ Week. On Friday, 11 April 2025 at 02.30 p.m., “Potansiyelinizi Bulmak için Kendinizi Tanıyın / Know Yourself to Find Your Potential” talk was held as part of the event. The event hosted EMU Arts and Sciences Faculty, Chemistry PhD student and the founder of Özhim Heathcare Services Ltd. Chemist Özbir Akbaşak.

The event was attended by the Chair of EMU Departments of Physics and Chemistry Prof. Dr. İzzet Sakallı, faculty members and students.

 

“Experiences – Far More Valuable than Sources such as AI programs or Internet”

The event commenced with a brief presentation on Akbaşak’s background. Then, taking the stage, Akbaşak welcomed the attendees of the event and noted that he is a PhD student at EMU Faculty of Pharmacy. Stating that he would be sharing insights on his career journey and professional experiences after graduation, Akbaşak underscored that the experiences are far more valuable than sources such as artificial intelligence (AI) and internet. Moreover, Akbaşak emphasized the high educational standards of EMU, where he earned his Master’s degree in Chemistry, a university recognized among the world's top institutions. He also shared details about his entrepreneurial path, offering an overview of his company, Özhim Healthcare Services, with the participants.

During the talk event, participants received information on career opportunities in the field of chemistry, lab experiences as well as current advances in the sector. Attracting significant interest from the audience, Akbaşak provided the participants with important suggestions on discovering their potentials and developing themselves in professional life.

Delivered in Turkish language, the event also featured a question-answer session where students got the change to ask questions on matters they are curious about. At the end of the event, Akbaşak was presented with a traditional Cypriot Lefkara work panel by the Head of Departments of Physics and Chemistry Prof. Dr. İzzet Sakallı, Vice Head of Department of Chemistry Prof. Dr. Mustafa Gazi, Vice Head of Department of Physics Prof. Dr.  Seyedhabıbollah Mazharımousav and Department of Chemistry academic staff member Prof. Dr. Huriye İcil.
