Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Faculty of Arts and Sciences and EMU Faculty of Engineering provided esteemed contributions to the Science Fair organized by the Necat British College. Said event allowed students to present projects they created in physics, chemistry, biology, engineering, and robotic coding, with the aim of boosting interest in science and technology and encouraging a spirit of research and exploration.
Attending the event under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Sakallı, Head of the EMU Department of Physics, and Prof. Dr. Mustafa Gazi, Vice Chair of the Department of Chemistry at the EMU Faculty of Arts and Sciences, the teams from the Departments of Physics and Chemistry had the opportunity to engage in hands-on scientific experiences with the students.
The research assistants from the EMU Department of Physics, Esra Yörük, Nazım Sertkan, and Abdullahi Muhammad, conducted experiments on Archimedes’ Principle, Magnetic Force, and Newton’s Second Law, offering students the opportunity to observe key concepts in physics. Similarly, research assistants İlmiye Kasımoğulları and Polen Yazgın from the EMU Department of Chemistry presented practical experiments on the precipitation of barium sulphate, titration of aspirin tablets, and the crystallization of ammonium copper sulphate and ammonium nickel sulphate, providing participants with hands-on knowledge of chemistry.
Aiming to advance the scientific thinking skills of secondary and high school students, the event also featured EMU Faculty of Engineering which contributed to the Science Fair with interest-striking experiences ranging from robotic technologies to earthquakes.
The Head of the EMU Mechanical Engineering Department Assoc. Prof. Dr. Murat Özdenefe, Head of the EMU Civil Engineering Department Assoc. Prof. Dr. Eriş Uygar, Vice Head of the EMU Computer Engineering Department Assist. Prof. Dr. Ahmet Ünveren, EMU Industrial Engineering Department academic staff members Prof. Dr. Orhan Korhan and Assist. Prof. Dr. Ali B. Baştaş and, EMU Electrical-Electronics Engineering Department research assistant Arya Saboury met with students. During the event, secondary and high school students had the opportunity to closely observe engineering practices and received insights on various projects.
