Famagusta Turkish Maarif College Wins the EMU 26th High Schools Mathematics Competition

Famagusta Turkish Maarif College team comprising of Berkay Doyuran, Efe Abi and Nevzat Kınalısoy finished the competition in first place.

Organized by Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Arts and Sciences Faculty, Department of Mathematics with the contributions of Onay Fadıl Demirciler Education and Science Foundation, the final round of “26th High Schools Mathematics Competition” took place at Mustafa Afşin Ersoy Hall with the participation of Bülent Ecevit Anatolian High School, Famagusta Turkish Maarif College, Nicosia Turkish Maarif College, 19 May Turkish Maarif College and 20 Temmuz High School in front of audience. Speaking before the final commenced, Mathematics Department Chair Prof. Dr. Nazım Mahmudov stated that the competition could not be held for the last two years due to the pandemic and after the decision to hold it this year, there was a movement and excitement in the department. Prof. Dr. Mahmudov wished luck to the competing teams and thanked the Onay Fadıl Demirciler Education and Science Foundation for their financial support. Faculty of Arts and Sciences Vice Dean Assist. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Bozer touched upon the Mathematics Department and provided information about undergraduate, masters and doctoral degree programs. EMU Vice Rector for Academic Affairs Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Aktuğlu also delivered a speech where he said that the competition which is organized for the 26th time this year has become a brand in TRNC and thanked all the faculty members who have participated in the organization of the event during these years. Thanking the Onay Fadıl Demirciler Education and Science Foundation for their support, Prof. Dr. Aktuğlu wished all the finalists luck.

19 Mayıs TMK 

The results of the exciting and competitive final are as follows:

  • Famagusta Turkish Maarif College team comprising of Berkay Doyuran, Efe Abi and Nevzat Kınalısoy finished “First” with their mathematics teachers Ceren Mirillo and Hüseyin Çırakoğlu,

  • 19 May Turkish Maarif College team comprising of Emel Bozkurt, Sadık Koruçan and Utku Bülbül finished “Second” with their mathematics teachers Eser Ruso Özyalçın and Ahmet Kasabalı,

  • Bülent Ecevit Anatolian High School team comprising of Arda Öztüner, Berkcan Sadi Togan and Hüseyin Ekşici finished “Third” with their teachers Nursel Altan Andız and M. Ertan Dolu,

  • Finishing the competition in fourth place, Nicosia Turkish Maarif College team comprising of Cemre Yeşil, Emine Meryem Şahin and Hüseyin Ademoğulları received the “Onay Fadıl Demirciler Special Award” with their teachers Deniz Ahçıhoca Çobanoğlu and Zehra Kavuklu Tokkan and,   

  • Finishing in fifth place, 20 Temmuz High School team comprising of Hasret Sıla Çavuşoğlu, Mustafa Gökalp Aslan and Yusuf Tufan Avcı received the “Assist. Prof. Dr. Kemal Demirciler Special Award” with their teachers Besime Tanul and Çelen Tokar.

This year, third place holder in the semi-final round,  

  • TED North Cyprus College team comprising of Dilara Ulukul, Ece Balık and Emre Başaran received the “26th Year Special Award” with their teachers Fuat Ortaş and Fuat Temelci.

Telsim High School Orchestra Competition winner Nicosia Anatolian Fine Arts High School performed during the award ceremony where, winner of the competition Famagusta Maarif College team members were presented with their awards by EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Aykut Hocanın, second place owner 19 May Turkish Maarif College was presented awards by Vice Rector for Academic Affairs Prof. Dr. Hasan Demirel and third place owner Bülent Ecevit Anatolian High School was presented awards by Vice Rector for Student Affairs Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Aktuğlu. Naciye Demirciler, daughter of late Onal Fadıl Demirciler respectively presented the Onay Fadıl Demirciler Special Award and Assist. Prof. Dr. Kemal Demirciler Special Award to Nicosia Turkish Maarif College and 20 Temmuz High School.

 

 

Individual Awards were also presented

Awards for the Individual Category of the 26th High Schools Mathematics Competition which was held on 21 April 2022 were also presented by Prof. Dr. Hocanın, Prof. Dr. Demirel, Prof. Dr. Aktuğlu, Assist. Prof. Dr. Bozer, Prof. Dr. Mahmudov and Arts and Sciences Faculty former Dean Prof. Dr. Rza Bashirov.

First Place in Individual Category;

  • Arda Öztüner (BEAHS) and Emel Bozkurt (19 May TMC),

Second Place in Individual Category;

  • Hüseyin Ademoğulları (Nicosia TMC) and Sadık Koruçam (19 May TMC)

Third Place in Individual Category;

  • Emine Meryem Şahin (Nicosia TMC), and

26th Year Special Award winners;

  • Hüseyin Ekşici (BEAHS) and Utku Bülbül (19 May TMC),

Onay Fadıl Demirciler Special Award winners;

  • Ege Ündeniş (19 May TMC) and Nevzat Kınalısoy (Famagusta TMC),

Assist. Prof. Dr. Kemal Demirciler Special Award winners;

  • Ceylan Semerci (Nicosia TMC), Ercem Cemal Osmanlı (Nicosia TMC) and Hasret Sıla Çavuşoğlu (20 Temmuz HS).

Onay Fadıl Demirciler Shield III

2022 competition winner Famagusta Turkish Maarif College became the perpetual owner of the Onay Fadıl Demirciler Shield III for a 5-year period by having their name engraved on the shield. The shield was presented to school director Savaş Moralı by Rector Prof. Dr. Hocanın and Naciye Demirciler.
