EMU Translation and Interpreting Department’s 7th Silver Screen Days

EMU Translation and Interpreting Department's 7th Silver Screen Days featuring the screening of films translated by final year students took place in Eastern Mediterranean University between 6 and 9 January 2015.

Translation and Interpreting Department students Huriye Beşerler, Yağmur Kılgın, Mihrican Elibol, Ayşan Sunalp, Alnur Kocaemir, Pembe Komut, Dilara Mum, Emre Erden, Ahmet Akınsel, Kutay Yatıkkaya, Mert Efekan, Selma Şanlısoy and Ülfet Çoban translated a number of movies that covered the history, drama, comedy and animation genres.

The Silver Screen days have worked within the framework of "Quality Language, Quality Translator" since 2009.The 7th Silver Screen Days stressed the importance of introducing a film to different cultures through translation.

The coordinator of the department and supervisor of the projects Neslihan Binatlı Hekimoğlu stated that the event aims to make the students aware of the important responsibility undertaken in the translation profession. Hekimoğlu also added that there is a need in the translation sector for quality translations and expert translators, and that in order to function as a high quality translator one should possess effective translation techniques, intercultural communication and general culture.
