6 YEARS, 6 DOCUMENTARIES, 6 DIFFERENT STORIES
The Department of Translation and Interpretation within the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Eastern Mediterranean University, organized its Sixth Documentary Film Days which involved the screening of six documentaries between the dates May 23-25, 2017.
In a university wide activity, graduating students of the department Erdem Arslan, Tuygan Uygur, Sibel Yurtsuz, Afgan Balashlı, Direnç Kuyucu and Nezaket Şadırvan shared their graduation projects in the field of audio-visual translation with the whole university.
The activity was conducted in the form of workshops including mini seminars during which the students shared information regarding the methods they used, the difficulties they encountered and the audio-visual translation process in general.
Department lecturer and project supervisor Neslihan Binatlı Hekimoğlu said, "The deciphering, syncronisation and subtitling done for these documentaries, their graduation project, is in reality the fruition of a four year education and all department staff have a share in it." Audio-visual translation expert Neslihan Binatlı Hekimoğlu also said that the Department of Translation and Interpretation Annual Documentary Film Days was conceived in order to support the professional and personal development of its students and that the most significant aim of this Sixth Documentary Film Days was not only to demonstrate what students were capable of achieving as professional translators, but also to provide them with an educational instrument that would enrich their general culture and inform them of their contemporary world.
Once again, the Department of Translation and Interpretation whose aim is to train "esteemed colleagues", has shown, by this activity, its difference in perspective and its understanding of the importance of applied training.
